Let’s Take This Opportunity to Rethink Ourselves

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Before this global pause, had you ever wondered what would happen if humanity came to a halt?

Now that we’re here, what do we do with our time? Do we just wait this out, watch a lot of shows, and return to the way we used to do things? I certainly hope not. If this pause tells us anything, it’s that we have an opportunity to rethink ourselves. Completely.

Sure, there are many things humanity does well, sometimes even more so during a crisis. But collectively, we’ve lost sight of our connection to ourselves. To each other. To the Earth. What do we truly value most? Why do we do what we do? Who are we, and what do we want for ourselves and for the world?

As we adapt to new ways of being, it’s a good time to explore these questions — to “go inside,” as the wisdom traditions suggest. Through self-inquiry and evaluation, we can discover what works and what doesn’t, both for ourselves and our surroundings. We can recognize truth, find our greatest good, and meet each moment as fearlessly as possible. We can accept the uncertainty of now and use it to rebuild the world — this time with deeper understanding, compassion and consideration.

Sitting with these questions has always been a challenge. It’s tough to go inside with so much swirling around outside. It’s much easier to get lost in distraction and escapism. But these questions are critical to explore, because our answers will define the rest of our time here. I, for one, would prefer that time to be ever-more peaceful, balanced, and joyful. For all beings.

Toward this goal, and for the rest of my life, I pledge to support a more harmonious existence. In my role as a communicator, I will continue to release messages that embrace our interconnectedness. Messages that are positive, empowering, and life-affirming. Messages that bridge our different cultures, lifestyles, and ideologies. Messages — verbal, visual, or otherwise — that encourage honest communication and cooperation as we face the many global issues of our time.

Love,
Miles
